Chapter 2, A Great Fire

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

Colonel Robert! Do you still recognize this axe?" The shadow raised the axe in his hand and said to the old man lying on the ground, "Do you think hiding in this town will allow you to escape the punishment of divine blood and fire?

Chen Jianqiu had just tucked the money into his pocket

The sheriff skillfully drew a lasso from his waist, binding the Indian securely. He then inspected the revolver in his hand, removed all the bullets from the cylinder, and handed the gun to the Indian.

Two subordinates woke the nearby residents to extinguish the fire, while the others locked Chen Jianqiu and the others in the carriage. They drove towards the police station on the other side of the town

Damn it! Chen Jianqiu felt somewhat frustrated. He looked down and saw a hitching post by the roadside, and with a thought, he kicked the hitching post with one foot

With a furious roar, Chen Jianqiu charged forward in a single leap, showing no signs of injury on his foot

He found a job as a miner at the coal mine in Shiquan Town. The owner of the mine is an elderly man who appears quite kind, offering him a salary of 20 dollars per month for 12 hours of work each day

He sat up slowly, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and the kindness that had once graced his face was completely replaced by a mocking expression: "I have killed too many Indian bastards, let me think, which one are you? Huh? The wild offspring of Crazy Horse?"

As the two individuals drew closer, the Black man ran around a corner, climbed over a fence, and jumped into the backyard of a large house

The back door of the house was slammed open with a "bang," and a person fell out from inside, landing on the ground. Another figure, carrying a bow and arrow and holding an axe, followed out through the door.

"You may also choose to lay down the axe and flee for your life," the coal mine owner said with a sinister smile, teasing the fragile nerves of the young Indian. "The sheriff will be here soon, and by then, you will meet a fate as miserable as that of your foolish father"

The Pacific Railroad, built with the blood and flesh of Chinese laborers, allows coal to sit in privilege, while they themselves are cast aside along with the coal

The shadow holding the axe stepped into the light, revealing a young Native American man, his trembling hand raised the axe high.

In the month since his arrival, Chen Jianqiu has only been able to think of matters that are close at hand; as for why he came to the United States and the origins of the abilities embodied in this physical form, he knows nothing.

Subsequently, he drew his gun from his waist

Chen Jianqiu then heard the sound of crackling flames coming from inside the room. Before long, flames and thick smoke had already climbed out of the second-floor window

When he woke up, he found himself lying on an old train traveling from San Francisco (now known as San Francisco) to Salt Lake City, and then he was thrown into a coal car in Salt Lake City, crossing mountains and valleys until he arrived in Springville.

Stop!

"What about those two?" Johnny gestured towards Chen Jianqiu and the Black man.

The Black man's eyes widened in disbelief, and Chen Jianqiu also found it somewhat hard to believe

This 10 dollars is equivalent to two weeks' wages

The young Indian man had not yet reacted when suddenly his head was struck, causing him to fall straight forward like a wooden post

Upon seeing him chase after, the man no longer pretended to be drunk, opened his legs, and fled wildly.

"Then why do you run when I chase you?" Chen Jianqiu's smile reappeared on his face. He began to press the knuckles of his left hand with his right hand, the knuckles making a "crack crack" sound.

Moonlight spills onto the street, and the light emanating from the windows of the houses along the road seeps into the haze, creating patches of hazy light and shadow

A bullet hole appeared in the forehead of the coal mine owner, and blood began to gush out from the hole. The old man’s eyes widened in disbelief as he fell backward.

With the aid of the indoor lighting, Chen Jianqiu clearly saw the face of the elderly man on the ground; it was indeed the owner of the coal mine

The Black man, upon seeing this, changed his expression and, while retreating, assumed a boxing stance, swiftly throwing two punches in the air: "Brother, I advise you not to provoke me; I have trained in boxing. I ... ... "

But a familiar voice sounded.

Chen Jianqiu followed closely behind and also entered. He recognized this large house, whose owner was the seemingly kind coal mine boss. The entire yard, except for the low fence at the entrance they came through, was surrounded by walls on both sides. The black man, in a state of panic, had inadvertently stumbled into a dead end

The haze has yet to dissipate, and there are no streetlights on the town's streets, where a Black man retreats into the shadows

He reached into Chen Jianqiu's clothing, pulled out a ten-dollar bill, and playfully slapped it against his face, laughing unabashedly

However, Chen Jianqiu did not resist; his waist was pressed against by a rifle, and his hands were tightly bound.

At a street corner, a crescent-shaped arc of white light suddenly appeared

Chen Jianqiu knows this person, who is the town's sheriff—Sheriff Morris. He is also holding a box, the contents of which are unknown.

At this moment, the Black man had been cornered against a window of the house; he turned around and shrugged his shoulders

"Boss, how do you say www.hetushu.com?" Johnny looked at Morris

"Take them all away, the accomplices who are on the loose," Morris said decisively

Just now, Johnny, who was still at the tavern, had already brought four subordinates armed with rifles, blocking the back yard door. Three dark gun muzzles were aimed at the corner where Chen Jianqiu and the Black man were located

Oh no! Chen Jianqiu and the black man seemed to simultaneously understand what was happening; they were preparing to find an opportunity to make a quick escape

"Hey, brother, why are you chasing me?" said the Black man

The dull thud of "dong" clearly did not impress the post, as Chen Jianqiu picked up his foot, hopping and cursing: "Damn it, hell!"

The two people inside, raise your hands, come out

Another figure emerged from the back door of the house, holding a six-shot revolver, the muzzle still smoking

After turning a corner, Chen Jianqiu realized that he seemed to have made a mistake. Letting a Black man run into the night was akin to releasing a chameleon into the forest; even if it crouched in a corner, it would not be easily spotted.

Johnny pushed him from behind and ominously said, "Kid, do you know how we treat criminals around here? I will take good care of you"

Before he could finish speaking, he received a solid punch to the face. The Black man staggered back a few steps and then sat down on the ground.

A loud bang

A Black man and a Chinese man, in the backyard of a white old mine owner, are keeping watch for an Indian? What a joke

The Black man shook his head, completely deflated, took the banknote out of his pocket, and handed it to Chen Jianqiu

Chen Jianqiu threw the flour to the Chinese uncle who had just walked out of the tavern and was preparing to go home: "Uncle, could you please help me again?" He then rushed towards the direction of the Black man.

The black man smiled

Chen Jianqiu is a time traveler

Johnny was momentarily taken aback, but quickly sprang into action, instructing one of his subordinates to carry the Indian out.

Chen Jianqiu took a misstep forward and grabbed him by the collar: "Money?"

A gunshot rang out with a "pop" sound

Your accomplice?" Chen Jianqiu asked in a low voice as he pressed the Black man down beneath him

The two individuals were unable to raise their hands and slowly emerged from the corner

The man hurriedly shook his head, indicating that he knew nothing.

The Black man realized he had fallen into a trap, quickly shut his mouth, and turned to run. However, this time, those pursuing him had locked onto his trail and began to chase him relentlessly

"This Indian sneaked into the old mine owner's house, stole his gun, and used it to kill the poor old man, then set fire to his house." Morris came down the steps carrying a box, "I am late"
